What you describe here, is probably one of the biggest issues everone
developing bigger apps with JSF has, to make things short
Request/Session only scopes simple do not cut it, and is a major cause
of headaches, and people are using workarounds left and right.
It is time for a standard whatsoever to clean the mess up, since it is
cleanable without having any impact whatsoever on legacy apps, and since
it is cleanable with a moderate amount of work.
Craig, since you are reading this thread, is there any possibility, that
we are going to see your shale dialog system or something similar in the
official specs, or that we have the mess cleaned up on the lowest level
possible (servlet like you seem to prefer) in a forseeable future.
