These are indeed great news, however I think that
perhaps I wasn’t too clear about what I was trying to
achieve. I wasn’t referring to the problem that occurs
(well, occurred at least!)  when the user hit the
browser’s back button, but to the lack of a “back”
button JSF component that could be used to return the
user to the previous page when a Jsp is referenced by
more than one page.

If the savestate stack you were referring to can be
helpful in this kind of situation (it sounds like it
does!) I would appreciate a pointer to the relevant
Class(es) (I’m sorry but I still can’t find it in the
sources!)  Otherwise I would still like some
information about my original question, i.e.  how one
would go about manually saving and restoring the
component tree....
