It appears this feature is completely custom to OpenJpa, and isn't

in the JPA 2.0 specification. That's unfortunate, but it appears to

I agree. It's too late for this cycle of JPA specification, but please
take the time to let the JPA folks know what you'd like to see in
future releases of the specification.
