Your file has been corrupted, possibly because of a crash or over-hasty power 
down of your computer; outside of OpenOffice change the file type to .zip, then 
attempt to open it with the system file archiver.  If it opens, your content 
will be in file content.xml, if that opens. In that case, (again outside of 
OpenOffice) look in the directories pointed to by the OpebnOffice settings 
/Tools /Options /OpenOffice /Paths - Backup and /Tools /Options /OpenOffice 
/Paths - Temp ; rename any files with arbitrary names and extensions to the 
file type you were using and see if they contain some or all of your data. 
Download and run one of Recuva or PhotoRec and see if this will recover any 
deleted temporary file containing sum or all of your data.

Note that /Options is under Preferences on a Mac.
