Thank you.

I have downloaded LibreOffice (and Java Runtime Environment) and it seems to do
everything I need it to do, Apple Silicon compliant, to boot. As far as I am
concerned, this answers the question several of us have asked. If Apache comes
up with an Apple Silicon version of OpenOffice, great. If not, there's this.
The Office Suite market offers a wide range of software. I recommend to check:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_office_suites
Check out the list for word processors, spread sheets and so on. The option even on Apple Devices is plenty. ODF  is widly adopted. I think that most issues are layout concerned. But i may be wrong, i am looking at other topics then interoperability. The last comparison i saw is a bid aged.

LO is campaigning against other suites. Massively in the past against OpenOffice after they forked from it. Recently they criticized onlyOffice. There have imho longer ongoing argue with Collabora (which releases Collabora Office). I am not sure how this will develop. Especially because Collabora has been the industrial arm of LO. It is not clear how this develops.
I wish People would be more positive.

All the best

Yes, LO and OO both have ODF files as their native format. The two projects
split years ago, at least in part because of philosophical differences about
licensing (although both are FLOSS).

I never heard of LibreOffice until just now and I just looked at the website.
Can it open OpenOffice files?

I read that MacOS 28 is expected in 2027, so it gives some time yet.
LibreOffice apparently has Apple Silicon support now, so it's available if
OpenOffice isn't.
