you were exactly correct.
 I went to  edit/links/break links
 and saved it.
 that copy now opens quickly and accurately.
 
 I was assuming, from my WORD experience that a copy from the web
 and paste into the document was free of linking. Bad assumption.
 Things like that are going to take some adjusting to.....
