Considering that congregations are generally cash poor, I think OOo is
certainly better from a cost perspective. As to features, OOo is very
compatible with Microsoft Office files and often is able to open MSO
files that MSO cannot. That means your .doc, .ppt and .xls files can be
handled in OOo. Have a look at
http://www.openoffice.org/product/docs/OOoFlyer11s.pdf under Product
Information for a quick overview of OpenOffice.org

There is a group http://theopencd.org/ that has a set of Open Source
programs for Windows, including OpenOffice.org, that might be useful for
supporting your congregation.

You can keep all your MS software and should not have any conflicts. My
personal preference is to let OOo open all MSO files but you should make
that choice for yourself.

You might want to have a look at available documenation.openoffice.org.
There you will find two user manuals. One as a single document and the
second, the OOoAuthors guide in sections. Also the HOW-TOs may help you
decide.

As to what to download, just select, your language, OS (windows) and
your download site. I have found that Cygnus is quite good for me in
Toronto but any one will do as they all have the same files.
