I would just download the tar, untar it and then run the setup program.
You shouldn't have to change any "scripts".

Actually, this raises another question.
I just downloaded OOo 1.1.4 for Linux x86.
I'm new to Linux, and have Linux and Win XP dual boot installed on a lap 
top.

When I clicked on setup to install / upgrade OOo to the linux portion, 
*nothing* happens.  I gleaned from some place that I need to change the 
chmod for the start and install files.

Is there a Linux / Suse 9.1 afficiando who can suggest some pointers?
