Too bad about no ability, nor apparently any plan, to create new Presentation
Styles beyond modifying the existing one. Let me describe a user case and
perhaps the list can suggest an alternate route.

My colleagues and I are developing training materials for our software
(S-PLUS). The courses are hands-on, i.e., each student has a machine with our
software installed and works with it over 2 or 3 days while we present
instruction material, examples and excercises. We find slide presentations
quite useful, because in a complex application like ours we can focus each
slide or few slides on a particular topic and follow up with examples and
excercises. Slide format forces us and the students to focus on information
bytes (forgive the jargon) which are relatively easy to digest. Given the
type of slides we make (some are bulleted lists, some are code and graphics,
some are code and output, some are code and tables, etc. etc. etc.) it would
be quite valuable to have more Presentation Styles options.

Now a BIG parenthetical statement.
(((By the way, I have modified the existing elements in the Presentation
Styles (autolayout) panel and if it is unlikely we'll get a "new" option
anytime soon, it would be very helpful to have the following:
1) More Outline elements. Currently the limit is 9. How about 15?
2) The ability to simply rename the elements.
3) Also if possible, two outline heirarchies, rather than one, so we can have
the typical bulleted list heirarchy and a second code heirarchy which is
typically not bulleted, has different font face and size, and different
levels of indentation. )))

Now getting back to the main discussion. Our strategy is to create slides
(have been doing this in Powerpoint but Impress seems to be a better
environment for various reasons), convert to HTML for ease of navigation
during presentation, and ultimately convert the HTML to pdf to deliver to
students on CDROM.

Any comments on this stragegy?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

Bob

LOL!
Lemme hand the response over to Roseanna Roseanna Danna: ("nevermind").

As you cannot _apply_ presentation styles (Says so in the Help file),
what would be the point to creating one? Or is that a chicken-and-egg
question?

I didn't see Rod's last response prior to launching mine and I admit to
not following the thread closely. Suffice it to say, I'm not a fan of
"powerpoint presentations." Anyway, I believe there is consensus that
is will be awhile, if ever, before the code is bent and the ability to
create new Presentation Styles is introduced.

So, as much as I would like to respond to your request, I bow to reality
and admit it is not within my power to do so.

Regards,
Doug
