Hi Jim,
this is my decent opinion regarding your issue:
it of course depends on the version of OOo you are using (the newer the better - of course) but in general OOo and MSO have there sets of functions which are overlapping but not equal. Therefore there is most of the functions (I guess) very similar up to equal and there are also functions that are in MSO which are not in OOo and vice versa.
It simply depends on what you prefer - but this wasn't even your question. ;-) Anyways, I do definitely prefer OOo, if just for the reason that MS (in my eyes) is criminal, but of course also for the fact that OOo is a great product and I like the point that I could change it, add to it, if I really wanted or needed it, which of course would be quite some work to start with.
Hope that answers yuor question at least a bit.

Greetings:
This doesn't alter my using OpenOffice one iota nor question its more than adequate functions. I'm just asking this as a techno curiosity: OpenOffice would be (roughly?) the equivalent of what version of MS Office? I kind of bristled at one associate who said OpenOffice is pretty much equal to MS Office 98, which is a put down to me since I see for more capabilities in current OOo than that!
Any notions?
Thanks!
