[users] Turning off O/ -> =?iso-8859-1?Q?=D8_and_L=2F_=2D=3E?= [barred L]

In Writer, when I type "PO/Job #" I get "P�Job 
#".  Something similar happens when I type 
"RTL/LTR" (the slash becomes a bar across the 
first L, but I can't send the character via 
e-mail).  How can I turn off this overzealous 
behavior?

Hint:  It isn't an obvious autotext option, and 
I've looked through Tools/Options without finding 
a cure.

FWIW, I'm using OpenOffice in the form of 
NeoOffice/J under Mac OS X 10.3.8, but I'm pretty 
sure it's an underlying OpenOffice issue.  Thanks
