Hi Urska,

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my SOS.
I have run a search and have no soffice.exe files. I had intended to run a new OO alongside the old one, just to make sure it was working.

Two questions:
1. I did wonder last night whether it was to do with .sversionrc. I deleted the old file as instructed, which contained:
"[versions] StarOffice 6.0=file:///home/richard/.staroffice6.0en
OpenOffice.org 1.0.1=file:///home/richard/.openoffice"
The current .sversionrc just contains"[versions]". This seems in part to be where the problem lies? I have changed the new file to read "OpenOffice.org 1.1.3=file:///home/richard/OpenOffice.org1.1.3" This has got openoffice booting again, but still with the old one, since the old .sversionrc is still in trash. When I renamed that file (to aviod deleting it), OO tried to open, but gave up. It didn't seem to notice the new version of .sversionrc

So...

2. What's the cleanest way so remove the various Oo and Staroffice files? Do I just delete them, or what?

many, many, many thanks

Richard

hi richard

try searching for ALL files named 'soffice.exe' on your computer, to see if you have more than 1 OOo installed. if you do, go to each installation folder, look for *setup.exe* and run it. i suggest you uninstall both (1.0.1 and 1.1.3, if you find them) and do a fresh installation of 1.1.3.

I have installed OO 1.1.3 (on Linux), and it has updated old links to
"Installation programme for OpenOffice1.0.1". I cannot run old version of
OO, nor the new one. Instructions said to use soffice command, which I
did, and found myself installing a new version of Staroffice (6.0). Links
have likewise been updated to "Installation programme for Staroffice6.0".
So I just go through the process again and again, or cancel.
Help!!!
It's like being on some mad carousel!!!
Thanks
