Dear sir/madam
I have been using Open Office for over a year without any problems on my
Sony Viaio using Windows XP.
I have a peculiar problem. I have a text document I created yesterday, that
will not close. I have tried every way I can think of to close it or delete
it, but nothing works. The 'permanently open' document is also preventing
me from closing down my computer, or from opening any other Openoffice
documents saved in my hard disc files.
I would be grateful for any suggestion as to how I can fix this.
Do I need to uninstall and re-install? If so, will any saved Openoffice
documents be lost?
Help please
Clive Francis
Interesting problem. You can not close the document?
* Is the document saved?
You can not delete or copy a document that is currently open; at least you can not while using Windows. When you choose File | Close or File | Exit, what happens?
If you can not either close or exist OpenOffice.org, can you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open the task list, find OpenOffice (it may be called soffice) and then end the task from there? Be warned, this is likely to KILL the running process or thread and as such will NOT save any open files.
You may also want to try to right click on the instance running in the task bar and exit that as well. I think this is called the quick start or something like that.
Sorry for the lack of details, i am running from memory and I do not use Windows at home. (well, not much anyway).
