Hi,

I'm trying out the Openoffice, Writer but I encountered some problems.

When I tried to open one of my MS Words documents with data form in Writer, I don't seem to be able to do so. Is it because Writer don't support the MS Words mechanism of data form? If I need to create data form in Writer, how do I do it? Is it possible?

This is, as far as I know, the only functionality that is clearly less practical in OOo than in the Ms version of office.
The reason (as I see it): in OOo forms are intended to connect to datasources, rather than handle user imput.
For the people who do not know: a word-doc with form fields, can be 'protected', so that the user can tab from field to field, and is able to enter text etc., working in the document.

1. Opening a doc-file with form fields in OOo, results in a document with user-imput fields.
2. Double click on it, and you can put in your text.
3. If you press Ctrl-F9, all imput fields from start to end are openend one after another. (Starting a document in OOo with a Word-template, also starts all the fields, as if you pressed Ctrl-F9)

So that's not to bad, however, you do not see the context (have to change the fieldname in order to know where you work), have to remove the spaces that are put in the fields by default, and have to mouse the OK, or use Ctrl-Tab, Enter, to leave ...

I planned a system to use bookmarks in stead of user-imput fields. Haven't worked it out yet. And it does not give the funcionality to protect the document.

Does this help enough?
Kind regards,

Cor

Please advise. Thanks.
