hi doron
what you did was tell OOo to save all files as MS Office files by default. that's fine, if that's what you want.
but now you have to tell the system (Windows) that when you double-click on a file in Windows Explorer, for instance, it should use MS Word to open the file and NOT OOo. you do that in Windows Explorer:
1. find a file (any file) with a .doc extension.
2. right-click on it and select the Open with... option (NOT Open)
3. in the dialog that will open, select MS Word and enable the 'Always use this program to open the file' button
4. click OK
you should see the icon infront of the filename change from OOo to MS Word. now, do the same with an Excel (xls) and PowerPoint (ppt, pps) file.

Hi,
I tried. But unfortunately there is no "open with" option,
if I try to open a document. I have already specified
(in the Text Document preferences) that I want the
OpenOffice wordprocessor to convert and save all files
in MS Word format. But what I am actually looking for
is a way to make all my former MSWord files appear as
MSWord files again. Would you have any suggestion on how
to do that short of uninstalling OpenOffice?

hi
remember, you have to do this for each MS Office file format (xls, ppt, doc). if you only relink the .ppt format from OOo Impress to PowerPoint, .doc files will still stay linked to OOo Writer instead of Word.
so you have to find a .doc file and link it (Open with...) to MS Word, then find a .xls file and link it to Excel etc.

Hi,
How can I reset MS Word as my default word processor? I
have followed
the advice given in your FAQ, but the icons of my former Word files still show up as OpenOffice docs.
