Since I am in the process of starting up in business and it is important to network and share information, I would find this to be a major drawback - not being able to open an OpenOffice document in Word format.
Is there any way round this or can OpenOffice documents only be accessed through other pcs with OpenOffice intallations.

At home I use OPENOFFICE only!! No Exceptions. I often have to send something to the office from the house via email. So I just save the file in .DOC format or RTF. It works like a champ!!
I just started installing OPENOFFICE on some of the machines at work to start helping us slowly make the transation of of MS CRACK.
The process is slow going as some of my employee and even my wife are hooked on MS-CRACK to the point of fighting with me about it every chance they get. Basically they just do not like change, they always try to say "BUT YOU CAN NOT DO ....." and then I show them and they start to calm down. But for them it will be long haul to get them fully off MS CRACK.
Every once in a while I will send some one a document or spreadsheet in OO format just so they will tell me they can not open it and then that allows me to introduce them to OO.
As soon as OO gets a good database program going, MS CRACK will be out the door in my business.
