Installation Steps
1. Unpack the downloaded image into a directory. For
example,Currently, the following command would unpack into the current
directory:
tar xvzf Ooo_1.9.m79_native_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz
2. Su to root, if necessary.
3. cd into the directory with the unpacked image. This could be RPMS.
4. Delete any rpm files that do not apply to your system. For
example, on a Fedora Core 3 system, delete any rpms specific to
another distribution such as
openofficeorg-suse-menus-1.9.79-1.noarch.rpm.
5. Then execute rpm -Uvih *rpm.
I found that step 5 produced error messages because I had previously
installed the m79 version and some of the new versions have the same
names, so that rpm thought they were already installed, and that led
to conflicts.
So I tried
rpm -Uvih --force *rpm
That worked. So I suggest altering the web page to mention the need
to use '--force' if updating an earlier test version.
However the program crashed when I tried it on a powerpoint file
using ms Comic Sans which works fine on OO 1.1.4
The automatic fault reporting mechanism has just send in a report.
I much prefer being able to untar a test version into a directory that
can coexist with older test versions, instead of using rpm, which makes
it impossible to have an old and a new version so that if the new
version goes wrong you can continue to use the old one.
Fortunately, I still have 1.1.4 accessible the old way (not using
rpms).
Many thanks for a great product. It allows me to collaborate with
MS users, though my personal preference is always for latex!
Cheers
Aaron
