Hallo Everyone,
I downloaded Open Office about a month ago. Since then I have spent very many frustrating hours trying to use it.
I do hope you also picked up one of the user guides from http://documentation.openoffice.org/ By not doing so I am certain you added to your frustration.
Why would he have? Where would he have seen that? How would he have known to do that? Why aren't they included in the download?
Don't assume just because *you*, G.r.r.r.r.r.r Singleton know A) that something exists and B) how to get it and use it - that everyone in the world automagically does the same. You display zero patience with newbies and are, in my opinion, one of the worst spokespersons ever for OpenOffice.org.
I would agree that Help can be unhelpful but using it is explained in the guides to make it easier to use.
Which, again, could have/should have been pointed out to the newbie without malice or frustration. If you choose to volunteer your time helping users, you really should try to *HELP* them, instead of insulting them.
If I contact open office, they tell me to contact the users group, where I am bombarded with at least one hundred messages a day, none of them of any use to me.
Of course, the users list is the place for presenting your questions to the volunteers who support this Open Source Software project. Had you contacted us with your concerns early on, I am certain we could have helped. Yes the volume is high but then our users number in the millions which results in many messages.
Yes, wow, and this matters to the end user, why? Stop bragging, and start helping. All he knows is he signed up, like some super-user like GRRRRRRR Singleton told him to, and the next thing he knows, the worst wave of SPAM ever hits his mail box. There really should be an easier way.
In other words OOo is not a commercial enterprize and none of us get paid. Were you expecting paid support?
I don't believe he ever said that.
If you want OpenOffice.org (or any "open" or "free" program for that matter) to compete with Microsoft, then you have to stop making excuses for the areas where it miserably falls short. If OOo is "good enough" - then it is good enough all around. If it is not, don't claim it is. Don't say any end user could pick it up and replace MSO with it, if they, indeed, cannot. Either OOo is a high end product with good support, or it isn't. Don't try to have it both ways. "We're AWESOME! We have Milllions! of users!!!" and in the next breath "What do you expect for free? Sheesh!" You are totally sending mixed messages.
If yes there are a number of
consultants who will do this for a fee. Please see http://bizdev.openoffice.org/ for the consultants directory for your area.
Say what you want about Microsoft Office, at least a non-techie can use it to produce things they want to.
You, of course, may purchase MSO. (At least I hope you purchase it)
So now you're telling the guy to buy Microsoft Office? You're a real supporter of OSS, aren't you? "Can't deal with *THE PRESSURE*, Punk?!? Don't know how to RTFM!?!? n00b!!? You can always go Microsoft! AND I HOPE YOU DO!" What a great slogan for OpenOffice.org!
One last thing, OpenOffice.org is _NOT_ an MSO clone. Nor is it intended to be so. If that is what you were expecting then I am not surprized you are disappointed.
Good god! When did he ever say that? Why are you always looking for a way to launch into that old tired rant.
GRRRRR, you really need to work on your peeople skills, bra.
