Exactly what are you doing to get the hang? Are you opening an existing document, or simply a blank document? What module is attempted to be opened (writer, calc, impress, draw). What version of OOo?? Do you have performance stats, eg cpu usage, disk usage, etc...
Little more info required in order to find problem (especially since there is no error message)...
