Is there a small footprint OOo reader like the Adobe reader?

For documents you want to send to others you need to do "File" -> "Save As" and change the "file type" to "MSWord 97/2000/XP". I fyou look in "Tools" -> "Options" you will find an area where you can have this set by default.

Good answer, CP. I would like to expand on it. First I would recommend that new or less experienced users take advantage of http://documentation.openoffice.org/ THere you will find to complete user guide, one as a single file and the other in smaller bits, HOW-TOs, and references to 3rd Party resources such as ooomacros.org et cetera.
I would also like to point out that OOo documents can be emailed as PDF files. Everyone downloads Acroread or one of the other PDF readers so that should probably help. Although I do not understand why your readers cannot download OOo to add to their toolset as they did with the PDF reader.
