More over, OOo can do almost everything that MS can do, and for the most part the use of OOo parallels MS Office. What do you mean "almost"? I know a few things OOo can do that MS Office can't.
So what can MS Office do that OOo can't? Well, I know a few things too, like Outlook and stuff, but that can be done with some other freeware, I guess.
One things for instance is that in Word, if you hold down alt, you can drag a rectangle around a block of text and copy that block (not having to start or the end of the line, just like from column 5 to 24).
Ah, you mean holding the Alt key when draging? Yes, I noticed that too, it was useful in some cases. Did someone ever file a request for this? Maybe we should? I almost never use writer so I don't miss it that much. I am a speadsheet man I guess... and I use OOo Draw and HTML sometimes.
Another is that in Excel, you can insert cut cells from the context menu, you don't have to insert and then paste or do a paste special. Also you can click and drag columns and rows.
I click and drag columns and rows all the time, or maybe I don't understand what you mean... I tried it a few seconds ago: I clicked column B, then clickeded and draged it a few columns to the right. So what do you mean?
In PowerPoint there was a multitude of things you could that couldn't be done in OOo Impress 1.1.x. This list has gotten A LOT shorter in Impress 2.0.
I won't mention Access, Outlook, or FrontPage, because OOo really has not comparable component.
Yes, you are right. OOo has no HTML editor creating code that only works with Internet Exploder, and that makes me very happy. If there is ever going to be such a thing in OOo, please let there be a checkbox so I can switch to "Follow international standards only"-mode, so people don't have to use IE to use my web pages.
I'm sure OOo does things that Office doesn't, but I am tired and can't think of them. To me, more importantly though, is that things in OOo just seem to be easier to do. OOo Math is 100000000 times better than the equation editor in word. Making cross references to picture captions is simple. The styles are soooo easy to use in OOo and almost hidden in Word. When turn off AutoFormat in OOo, it actually stays off. And, you actually have a customer service forum for OOo and if there is a bug or a feature you would like added, you can request it and it may actually happen.
The OOo customer service is great, I have filed a few issues myself of which some of them are corrected.
Lastly, OOo = $0, MS Office Teacher Edition = $150, other editions $300+.
