Ha!  I feel good, I can fix this! :)  Use the 'chapter number without 
separator' option.

btw, I have just upgraded to a beta of 2.0 so i dont know if this works i 1.1.4
and just a note: I can make the page numbering do this: 1.1 .44 but
not get rid of the extra space between the first part and the page
number
