I'll try it later, but that seems really troublesome comepared to implementing a pagestyle that is left only from the beginning.
It *is* troublesome, but "left only" page styles can only be assigned even page numbers from the page break dialog.
Another way to do this is to create a new page style for each section. The styles can be completely identical except for the name. The header and footer text is attached to the page style.
So what you can do then is when you need to create a new section with a new numbering, just create a new page style for that section. Then you can apply an offset to the page number. You get to that option by "Insert -> Fields -> Other". Under "Type" select "Page".On the right side you can select the format and under that is a box for "Offset". If you put the appropriate negative number in that box, you can have your page numbering start over at 1.
The caveat to that method is that if you subsequently edit material prior to the section break, the offset value will need to be adjusted, if the editing results in more or fewer pages prior to the break.
My technique is a hassle, but it has the redeeming characteristic of actually working, and once you've done it you're done. Adding or subtracting pages prior to the break won't screw up the page numbering.
