Hi James,

When OpenOffice.org 1.1.4 starts up; the splash screen is displayed and the progress bar displays about 80% and then an error message appears stating an error in regard to an object called GetDevice and states that the device name is empty. The message instructs the user to contact the system administrator. This system is based on Win XP and SP2.

I know it's not exactly what you describe, but wouldn't the error message be "GetStorage: No content"? If that's the case, this issue is a known one and steps to correct it can be found in http://documentation.openoffice.org/faqs/installation/026.html

If this is not the error you're seeing, note that if you want to really reinstall from scratch OpenOffice.org, it may be a good idea, after removing the product, to also remove (or rename or relocate on the hard drive) the "OpenOffice.org<version>/user" directory mentioned in that FAQ so that even the configuration changes you may have done while using the previous installation of OpenOffice.org are cleared.

If your error is not the one I mentioned above, it would be a good idea to just rename or put somewhere else that user directory, so that if such a move fixes the issue its contents can be looked at to try and determine the source of the problem.

Thanks,

Cyrille
