Sorry to top post, but I'm not answering this specific message, but I do want to jump into the thread.
Someone made a positive suggestion, but I've searched through the thread and can't find it- I pressed delete too quickly and searching through my trash folder failed to find it. The suggestion was that we have one person reply to requests such as this and provide them with positive guidance. I'm happy to volunteer for that IFF the list server can be set up in such a way as to simply redirect mail to me and not let it go to the list. The reason being that there are far too many posts on this list for me to scan reliably and always notice they are there. Also we don't want other people scaring away innocent users. It shouldn't be too hard for the list administrator to bounce emails with luxuriousity, or platinum perfect office in their subject to an alternate address. I can make that assertion very confidently as I've never administered a list! My policy would be to: a. help the person if possible b. suggest they download the latest version of OOo c. suggest they read FAQs, help or whatever. d. if I can't help, suggest they subscribe to the list but ask without reference to the alternative providers but mentioning their psecific version, OS etc. and any other information that might help to get their problem solved. This might provide a useful circuit-breaker as well as reduce the volume of unhelpful posts on an already busy list.
