Hi Russell As you should guess from my questions I am not an advanced Linux guru but a simple Linux user as such there are a number of items that I have formality with but no intiminate knowledge of. One of these is the proper location of OpenOffice files for single user and multi users situations. This is required knowledge for installation of OpenOffice m92 as one CAN NOT install m92 by using the rpm command but must use the install program that comes with m92. The reference that you provided above does not define where [I am assuming that this is /usr but that may not be correct] Mandrake 10.1 files are to be installed nor for that matter does it define where SuSE of Fedora files are to be installed. If you read the installation "install --help" print out that I posted with the original post you will note that the new installation procedure is vastly different than previous in that now one install OpenOffice by 3 slightly different methods which in general are: 1. install [OPTION]... SOURCE DEST (1st format) 2. install [OPTION]... SOURCE... DIRECTORY (2nd format) 3. install -d [OPTION]... DIRECTORY... (3rd format) First I have NO idea what DEST means. Is that an abbreviation of destination? If so what is the difference in DEST and DIRECTORY? Second I have NO idea which options to use to accomplish my goal of a multi user installation.
