Yes, *File>Properties>General tab>delete* did delete the field, but it left the actual number there as text. F9 or *Tools>update>all* did nothing to return the number to 1. I have to re-insert the appropriate field there manually, which seems rather a lengthy workaround of something that I suggest should not be necessary! Nevertheless, thanks anyway; I'll live with the workaround for now.
