If this is a string - just put a ' before it. With '8-9 entered, OOo
Calc will make
no inference to the format of the data - and treat it as a string.

But I don't want a ' before all my numbers. Is there someway do disable OOo Calc?

I would select the column and set the format for that column to text.
Likewise for a row.

Be advised that once you do that you can no longer enter a formula into any of those cells without first setting the format back to General. Like to drive me nuts until I figured that out.
