Hi Jim,
I'm sure others will be able to answer you more fully, but in the 
meantime - something that I noticed you wrote was -

Microsoft Internet Explorer no longer resides on my computer, just in 
case your installation application is dependent upon  this software 
by some strange quirk
 

Could be that I'm thinking Windows 98 and above, but is it actually 
possible to remove IE from a Windows installation without fubar'ing your 
Windows install? Maybe a Win95 re-install is in order?
