I think your problem with this computer is in the file associations. Call up the File Manager | Tools | Folder options and click the File Types tab. Scroll down through the extensions for .DOC and make sure it is associated with Microsoft Word. If not click the change button and pick Word. While you are at it. I would check the association for the .DOT and make sure it is associate as an Office Template.

That should fix your bosses problem.

The problem is not in opening the file again on the computer it was saved
on. The problem is that my boss insists on continuing to use Microsoft Word.
We often email him documents, and that's where it has seemed to be the
problem.

Thank You,
Jessica

Hi!
I think my advice will not be very effective, but I have had a similar
problem with Word files that were systematically classified as "Wordpad"
files. Usually, if you do not use complex functions of Word, this will
not have any consequences, because Wordpad will save the file in a Word
format. But what I did was to open Word first and then open the file
within Word (actually the file was unchanged!)

between OpenOffice and WordPad. Everytime we save a document as Microsoft
Office Word 97/2000/XP, it saves the file as a Word Pad document. I have
looked all over the computer for some kind of default setting that is
causing everything to be saved in WordPad, but I haven't found any solution.
