Also note that I was using Windows in the test.
Using ODBC, I was unable to access and modify a database. I was, however, able to use the jdbc connector with no problems of any kind. It is perhaps more difficult to configure and use the jdbc connector, because you must download the java code and then set your classpath inside of OpenOffice.org to include this new code. After this was done, however, I have had no difficulties at all in both reading and writing data into MySQL using macros.
