To obtain left-to-right columns of vertical text, in a new document, do:
1) Format ... Character ... Position ... Rotation/Scaling: 270 degrees ... OK.
2) Format ... Paragraph ... Alignment ... Text-to-text Alignment: Top ... OK.
3) Type Chinese.
