The short answer is 'yes'. The long answer is that there will always be some compatibility issues if you are opening MS files using OOo. The reason being is that OOo developers had to guess at the format of the MS files since it is a Redmond secret. Although they have done a surperb job there is still room for small differences.
With OOo you can open, edit and save in all MS formats.
