        Gotta agree here. While Horst is correct, you can select to NOT install
certain parts of the OOo package, you are still installing quite a bit more
than just say the Writer portion. If users want a simple, stand-alone
product, they are better off going with something like AbiWord (comes with
almost every flavor of *nix and has a Windows version available). Same
holds true for the other components in OOo - there are spreadsheet
programs, drawing programs, database components, etc. to suit almost every
need and OS. OOo is an office suite and thus requires and installs a base
package that contains functions that link the suite programs together and
make the suite program functionality available to the other suite programs.
Same holds true for MS Office. Even when you purchase the individual MSO
programs, you are installing more than just a word processor or spreadsheet
program because they are all tied to each other as an office suite.
