Hi,
I can not fine the download file?
I have downloaded open office (3x), read instruction and used search to try to locate the *.zip file. Can you give me an idea of why I can not find it!
Thanks
Dan
Hello Dan,
A couple of possibilities come to mind that may cause your problem.
1. The download was terminated prematurely and the file wasn't saved. I used to see this problem frequently using dialup. The download would seemingly come to a proper end but it never really closed the process so the temporary file wasn't made permanent.
2. You are searching the wrong drive or from somewhere below the root directory. Start your search at C:\ or D:\, etc.
If you continue to have no success locating the downloaded file, you will have to do it again. This time, pay careful attention to where you instruct your browser to save the file. If you don't find it there after the download is completed, then see 1., above.
It seems to me that Windows, specifically Internet Explorer, defaults to a subdirectory called "Downloaded Files" or "My Downloads", something like that, in either the C:\windows or C:\My Documents subdirectory. You might try locating a subdirectory with "download" in the name, as a first step.
Finally, I long ago solved this kind of problem by creating my own "Downloads" subdirectory with numerous vendor and/or software specific subdirectories beneath that. For example, I save all my OOo beta downloads to D:\downloads\OpenOffice\Version2. It helps find downloads months or even years after they were originally acquired.
If you are using dialup, I hope you can avoid downloading again because of how long it takes.
Good luck,
Doug
