Don't worry, OOo is an extremely compact file format. In fact, each file
is a few files that are run through ZIP.

I assume that the native file format used by OOo is smaller than that
of Word, because OOo uses a compressed file format. In general, the MS
products did not do this, especially for the Word 2 format. Just a guess.
If this is the Microsoft Word 2 format, this would be an RTF type format
(see http://www.wotsit.org/download.asp?f=word2)

I am happy to use Open Office, since I welcome alternatives to

There is one big lack though, from my point of view. I have very many
documents in WORD 2 format. Because of that and since I have a paid
license for WinWord 2 and I want to be legal, and because it
generates small files, I still quite often use it.
So my disappointment is that Open Office does not support import from
and export to WORD 2 format.
What's your response to that?
