Without having to go through that whole setup thingy. You can right click on the file and choose 'open with/Choose Program'. From the selection of programs choose MS Word and at the bottom of that window check the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" (yes it really says all that :) ). This should reset the association for you, back to Word.

Not sure if OO.o resets the associations every time it opens though.

When installing OpenOffice.org, it asked you whether you wanted to associate certain Microsoft Office file types with OpenOffice.org. You chose to associate it. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the program, this time making sure to keep the file types unchecked.

Hello Everyone,

I dig open office a lot. I like the general vibrations. However,

When I am using MS Word I save my documents in MS format. Later I open MS explorer, find the folder I want and then open the file I saved to do more work on it. When I open the file, however Open Office seems to have commandeered it, the file opens in Open Office. I am not yet as deft a user of OO as I am MSW and it is a bit of a pain.

Is there a setting in OpenOffice somewhere that sets it to open all the files ?
If so I want to change it so that I control what application opens and displays my files.

Thanks for any help anyone might offer.

Have a peaceful and productive day fellow people.

Charlie,
