Hi Paul,
I've tried the syntax you give but still same problem - that is same syntax
as already entered for open operation under file association. I'll try
changing the association to use syntax suggest by G. Roderick Singleton of
"soffice -calc <file>"

Sorry - should have checked version your using. It has recently
changed for Beta 2.0
Try :
<path to OOo install>\program\soffice.exe -o <path to file>\file.xls
This assumes that you have file associations sorted so that .xls files
are opened using calc by default.
