Peter, Highlight the cells you want to reformat into the traditional X,XXX.XX format. Then go to (click on) the format iten of the menu and pick cells. You should see that the language is English (South Africa) or maybe Afrikaans. In several of the langauge versions the format is the X.XXX,XX form. Change the language to something like English (USA) or English (UK) and then pick the numerical format in the window. And you should be good.
