First, I must clarify an issue upfront. When it comes to computing I am as
dumb as a stump. I will be staying that way. I suffer from an illness that
has caused brain damage in the area of the brain where technical and
organizational information is stored. I also have severe short term memory
loss which makes it nearly impossible for me to learn new or lost information.
Having said that, please keep in mind that I need you to explain how to manage
my formatting problem without getting technical. Just give it to me in the
simplest terms possible. Thanks!!
I am using OpenOffice.org 2.0 Beta on a Compac computer (1 yr old) with Windows
XP.
Problem: I have typed a lengthy document in upper case. I can get it to go
to lower case without a problem. Now I want to capitalize the first letter of
each sentence. I have followed the directions given in the HELP menu but it
will not capitalize the first letters. I must be doing something wrong!
This is exactly what I do: I highlight the whole document. I then select TOOLS
to AutoFormat/AutoCorrect to Options. I select the "Capitalize first letter of
every sentence" by highlighting it blue (with both the M and T checked or only
the M checked) and then press "OK". Nothing changes in the highlighted text.
I have practiced on other "documents" and can not understand what is wrong.
Have I found a glitch or am I just doing something stupid as usual? By the
way, I love the product. Even with the brain damage, I was able to open it up
and start writing a document without help. That is a very positive testimonial
from a truly incapacitated person. Deb
