I am e-mailing you to humbly request your help. My daughter provided me
with the link for OpenOffice because I cannot afford Microsoft Office at
this time. I downloaded OpenOffice but now I have a desktop icon that does
nothing. I don't know how to open it or use it. Did I do something wrong?
I have Vista.

After downloading OpenOffice from www.openoffice.org, you have to double click on the downloaded file to start the installation process. This will take you through a few configuration panels, where you can generally use the defauts. After the installation completes, you should have an OpenOffice folder and icons in your Start menu. You can use the icons to start the various OpenOffice components. Once OpenOffice is installed & working, you can delete that folder on your desktop.
