I just cannot find the setting to disable the recent file list which

Thanks in advance.
Go to Tools → Customize.... Select the Menus tab. Set the Menu box to
"File". Highlight "Recent Documents". Mouse-press "Modifty".
Press "Delete".
Don't forget the other modules of OOo ... ;-)

Many thanks Jim I was looking all the time in the settings menu.
I would not
come on the idea that it is in customize menu. I thaught it is somewhere
in the settings menu where you can change it to 1 or 0 recent files.
You may also try this extension ->

History Manager
by Gary
<http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/histmngr>

(It's spanning all modules. Minimum value is 1.)
Yes, I thaught about the other modules. Thanks.
One more question. If deleted the recent documents menu entry is only the
entry gone but the recent document file list still saved somewhere?

Yes.
The list is only removed from user interface.

You can find this 'PickList' in <Common.xcu> ->
<...\OpenOffice.org2\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Common.xcu>

You'll find the entries under
<node oor:name="PickList">.

You may also bring it back to user interface with ->
Tools -> Customize -> Add ...

In contrast to that, 'History Manager' really restricts the pick list.
If you've chosen the value 1, there will be only one entry.
Zero isn't available in reality - instead of that you'll get up to
four entries in the 'PickList'.

Manfred
Strange. I installed this add-on and setted it to 1. Also clicked on clear but all 10 entries are still there. Very strange. I am using OO 3.0 rc2.
Ok. Now I understand what you wanted to say. If I delete oor:name="PickList" from the Common.xcu file the list wont be there. Thanks.
