Hi, Robin,
I'm very curious how you find a way to use thunderbird to receive emails
from an Exchange server without open POP or IMAP ports. I always think
that's impossible so I'd be really happy if you could give me some tips.
Thanks in advance.

I use a program called fetchExe which is a java program. It downloads
all my mail to an mbox file that I can read in TB. It is a three stage
process to read the mail in TB.
Open the folder and rebuild the index.
Run my filters to move the mail to various folders, one of which is my
true inbox.
Compact the folder. This step is important or the mail will be
duplicated (if it is moved to a different mail box).
Note, this is the page that my bookmark points to but it re-directs to a
foreign language site that isn't working.

This program access the email via the Outlook Web Access features.
There is promise with the OpenChange tools coming.

I hope the work will allow Thunderbird to work directly with Exchange
server. Of course I could always hope that the higher ups would allow
our admins to allow pop3/imap support in the future.
We do have normal smtp out going mail for all the unix/linux servers
that are operating in our organization. This may be an issue for some.
