Zotero is in no way an ideal solution. It if far from even being
acceptable by everyone. But then, I couldn't find any better solution to
work with OOo. So it is the best I have seen so far. However, the rapid
development it is going through gives me tremendous hope. Have you
reported your problem on Zotero forums? In all probability, the problem
is fixable, but somebody has to get the developer's attention to have it
fixed.

BTW, please note that Zotero is supposed to be a bibliography manager as
well as citation tool. So the styles you desire should be a
specification for some journal or publisher. If this is not so, no
developer will want to tinker with preset styles.

In any case, perhaps you want to verify in Zotero forums whether
character formatting is possible. Since they use XML, I don't think it
should be difficult at all.

If you find anything better that works with OOo though, I would be
interested too.

Regards.
