I assume that for the heading you use heading 1, but for the appendix you do not. This is what causes the problem as OOo restarts numbering the heading 2 paragraphs only after a heading 1. There is quite a simple solution which, however, requires manual intervention: go to the first heading 2 in the appendix, right click on the paragraph and select "restart numbering". A more elegant solution is to use two different headings for the appendix and the sub paragraphs under the appendix. It is not too difficult to set it up, just follow these instructions: * Select a heading 1 paragraph, then drag the text in the style and formatting window to create a new style that you will call "Appendix 1". * Repeat the process with a Heading 2 and call the style "Appendix 2" * In the Outline numbering page tell OOo to use Appendix 1 as, say, 6th level style and not to show any sublevel. * Tell then OOo to use Appendix 2 as level 7, showing one sublevel. Note: If you have a TOC you will need to modify also the Contents styles. Cheers, Michele
