My name is Trent Petersen, and I am considering using your software.
I looked through your FAQ's and could not find the answer I was
looking for. Hopefully someone can help me. My question is: Is your
software compatible with Microsoft Office? I want to know if I type
up a research paper using your software and upload it to my school
(online) which uses Microsoft Office, will they be able to open the
file and vice-versa? Thank you for your time.

The answer is yes - with qualifications.
IF you are going to do more than the 'usual office' efforts with the
program it may have trouble converting. SUGGESTION: Download, Install
and use it. It is free! Then convert some of your efforts (samples) to
.doc and try them out on another machine that is using Microsoft Office.

My experience is that the usual problems are with presence/absence of fonts between machines. For a term paper you can use any of the 'traditional' fonts with great success. At least I have. (Arial, Bitstream Charter, Courier, Times Roman, Times New Roman have worked for me.) I suggest picking a few fonts from the OOo swriter dropdown and typing a line or two each, saving as a M$.doc and checking it on another machine running M$Word. Highlight, underline and such have never given me any problems going to Microsoft. Depending on the page Microsoft was written in it can be coming back. Same for certain fonts peculiar to M$.

Calc (excel) and Impress (power point) are in the same boat. Usually things work as expected. As for Base (access), well, let me just say that those that use access get what they deserve. There are many much better database programs out there.
