OK, I think I have solved it. I've been a victim of copy/paste. My OCR
software creates a Word document if I want it to, and has no facility to
create an OOo writer document. So I did a copy/paste from the
recognized document window to a Writer blank file. No graphic.

I repeated the process with Word; copy/paste same way. It worked.
Doing a little sluething I found the graphic sitting in one of the mso*
temp files. Where I thought I was copying a simple jpeg and text, I was
actually copying the text and not getting the somehow *linked* mso*
image! That's because the OCR output was set to save a file to Word
format, although what I actually did was a copy/paste operation. If I
changed the output to create a WP file say, it created a WP image. So a
copy/paste brought along the WP equivalent, whatever it was, and of
course, failed miserably.

I got here thanks to your inquiry, so, THANKS! It at least gave me a
direction to consider.

Guess the long & short is, either find better OCR app that'll handle
Writer, or do the transfers via Word. Writer et al is just fine; it's
the old GIGO at work again, along with a little cockpit ignorance. So
I'm smarter, but dang it, all I'm smart about is another LOCK that MS
has on me! Guess I'll go check out RTF and the other formats now; maybe
there's something there that will work.
BTW, using the clipboard for the transfer was no help either.

THANKS!

Twayne
