I have progressed well beyond the situation described in my earlier
message.
The card contains an email address and a URL, both of which OOo decides to
regard as links to mailer and browser respectively, and therefore
underlines. I want to remove these underlines; clicking on the "U"
(underline) button doesn't do anything. What do I have to do to remove
the underline?
