Here are a few possible solutions:

* Define a page style. Set a left border of a single line. This is my favorite method.

* draw an appropriate line using your favorite draw program. Save the line as an image. Insert the image into the document. Anchor the image to the page. Set the size as appropriate for the page. Perhaps even use it as a watermark for a particular page style.

* Create a frame and anchor it to the page. Use an appropriate line for the frame. I am guessing on this and have not tried it.

* Can the contents of the page be placed in a frame? Again, set a single left line border.

Be aware that the available characters that generate a vertical line do not necessarily translate
well between environments, if that is any concern. (|, AKA "pipe", on Windows
environment doesn't consistently translate to EBCDIC or *nix environments, for example; the
"broken pipe" character requires ALT-code or other non-keyboard methods of entry.)

For your request, a drawn line / graphic does sound like the most likely
portable solution (and the least likely to be impacted by changes in style /
font / character set).
Perhaps a bit of time invested in Draw outsider of the Write function?

Subject: [users] create a vertical line

I'm creating a letterhead.

I have a horizontal line across the top,and I'd like a vertical line down
the left side, but I find no way
to create a vertical line.

I realize I could put the entire writing space into a frame, and delete the
borders on bottom and left,
but that does not suit for other reasons.

(As an aside, while trying to do this, I opened Draw, and now cannot figure
out how to get the Draw
window to go away. I finally just left it open and started over creating a
new document.)

Thanks,
