Are you meaning the top right hand of the screen reminder about downloading
an update of the OpenOffice program... If so have a look at tool > options >
openoffice.org > online update.  De-select "check for updates
automatically"....

And before you go ranting and raving about suing everybody (just to confirm
everyone's opinions of Americans),  make sure you know what your talking
about ...

Openoffice is 'open source' - unsure how this is confused with business
practices (which are open as well - of course)
You wrote to a list of volunteers who are more than likely not in 'your
state'
A program's function asking if you want it to be updated - is hardly
internet fraud or security...
